Bose SoundLink around-ear wireless headphones II - First Look

On 2 Sep, Bose announced the launch of the SoundLink around-ear wireless headphones II, the update to the original version which sported a very distinct and clunky control module. Let's take a look at what this unit offers.
What's So Special?
1. Design
This sits nicely between the design of the QC25 and the SoundLink on-ear Bluetooth. Gone are the really ugly playback controls of the original so all in all, this looks way better to be spotted on the streets with.
2. NFC connection
Now, you have an added option of connecting your music device via the Near Field Communication (NFC) protocol. Android users rejoice! Perhaps iPhone 6S users will get this too on 9 Sep?
3. Multi-connect
You can play music on up to two devices at a time on Bluetooth. This definitely helps if you are using your tablet and phone concurrently.
4. Weight
198g is a very good number. This is light given a comparison of the 215g Beats Solo 2 Wireless (an on-ears) and the 300g Sony MDR-1ABT.
5. Battery Life
15 hours is what it promises. Not the best given the promise of Sony's MDR-1ABT's 28 hours but supposedly '25% more than the industry standard'. A quick 15 minute charge will give 2 hours of playback.
Availability
The SoundLink around-ear wireless (aka Bose AE2 SoundLink) is currently available online for pre-order on the Bose US site and will be able to ship on 10 Sep. It is available in black and white color schemes. For Singapore availability, you can register your interest for when the pre-orders start.
Pricing
This goes for SGD 399 (USD 279.95), a reasonable number given the pricing of the SGD 529 noise-canceling QC 25 and the SGD 379 for its on-ear brother.
At the same time, we'll see if we can get a unit for a spin.
